I have used this tittle to explain how teacher can help their students in the school.
I have one example to explain this:
Student : Teacher, I want to tell you about my story.
Teacher : Oh my student, what happened with you? Can you tell me what is your problem now?
Student : I have scolded by my mother in this morning and I am very sad now.
Teacher : Why is your mother scold you ?
Student : My mother has scolded me because I forgotten to do my homework last night. I don't my homework because I very tired. Whereas, I have gotten first championship in singing contest. But, my mother don't respect it and she angry with me.
Okay, you can read an example of my story. I want to tell that teacher has an important role in the school. When student get a problem, maybe the problems from their family, their friend, their education, and others. In this story, student come to the teacher to tell her problem. Then, teacher hear her problem and teacher search information from this students. In this conversation, teacher try to search the problem of her student. So, teacher give questions to know the problem was happening to this student.
So, I can say this is the process of interview, especially in educational setting. We can get more information of our students, and the information is very detail. Moreover, we can use this interview as an approach to our students, so we can know their problems. When we get an informations, we can use this information to diagnose solution of this problem. Maybe in that story, the problem is a mother who angry with her daughter and a mother isn't respect her children. First, we can give a solution to this students and give an emotional support, we can say "Oh my student, you are great because you can get a championship in singing contest. But you must, rearrange your schedules. So, you can organize your time to do your homework and you can follow this competition. If you can do this, I believe your mother wouldn't be angry anymore :)." Besides, we can compromise with her mother through an interview. We can give a solution to her mother such as help her daughter to remind her homework, arrange a better schedule, respect to their children, and do not give an advice with angry way. We can explain this way isn't good and decrease self esteem of her daughter (in this case).
Well, this is the theory ^^
- What is the interview in educational setting? Interview is verbal communication between interviewer and interviewee to discuss an information for certain purpose.
- What are the application of the interview in educational setting? The application of interview in educational setting are to get information about students, to get an academic and non-academic problems from the students, to get a solution about that problem, to improve academic skills of students in schools, to give an information about the rules of school, and others.
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of interview in educational setting? The advantages of interview in educational setting are we can get more information, easy to understand the problem of our students, we can get an initial information, and others. The disadvantages of interview in educational setting are we can't get more information of introvert students, we need longer time to do this interview, and we can't apply the formal interview to everyone.
- How to build rapport? We can build rapport with give greetings to our students (Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, etc). Then, we can ask the condition of our student (Are you feel good now?), give an information about the time and the purpose of our interview, and others. We must make a relax condition for our students, so they can tell their story and they don't feel strained. When we success to build rapport with our students, we can do the next step, like counseling.
Okay from that story, I have suggestions to the teacher especially counseling teacher in educational setting in Junior and Senior High School...
