Everyday, we see people on our daily activities (unless you’re living in the jungle or secluded place). Each of them has their own story, and that’s a fact . Sometimes, we saw them doing something silly. Sometimes outrageous. But did we even asked them ‘why’ before we judge them? Did we take an effort to understand their story before passing our judgement?
Meet Natalia Poklonskaya. In case you didn’t knew, she’s an attorney general working for Crimea, which if you follow the story, is on the verge of something bad. Completely a huge mess. Despite her sudden increase in popularity (which, once again, show us the stupidity of Internet), I want to talk more about her action in this. She was born on Crimea, and her hometown is (or was to be exact) a part of Ukraine. Last year, the country had a big internal issue there, and somehow in the line Russia kinda butt-in. Apparently, that caused Natalia to kinda snapped and joining the newly-established Republic of Crimea. I won’t go into details here, because reading all of those made my head hurt, and it’s only half of the source material. Ugh. Maybe for some people, the decision for her ‘betrayal’ sounds weird and blasphemy. But, if you count her battle against gang during her 2 years at Kiev (or Kyiv if you’re Ukrainan), the state of the nation and the protest (No political view here. Go for news website if you want to see that), and the fact that Crimea is her birthplace (and where her parent currently lives); it’s kinda understandable (in her shoes) why she did that. Regarding of the right/wrong, it’s another issue. Like someone said before, war is a battle of beliefs.
Oh, and I think her ‘Rule number 34′ pictures are already out in the web somewhere. So, off with you guys who looking especially for that picture…….perv.
You see, knowing about someone’s social history will gives you insight about his/her surroundings and life. What’s the use for this then? With this, you can open a little about his/her world, learning why he/she did that, and see his/her life in full picture, not partial pictures (which usually caused stereotypes and prejudice). Try to think about it. Why people bully another? Because they once bullied. Or they wanted to do ‘what’s cool’ in the front of their friends’ eyes. Why people have a trauma? Because they had some ugly situation back in the past. Why some people spoke in a sarcastic tone? Because maybe he/she learned that it’s the only way to get his/her opinion heard. Another example, Ryan Higa started to make videos because that was his attempt to avoid bullying, and thanks to that (and many other things in his life), he still doing that even today. Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg’s childhood makes gaming world something that was close to his own life, which basically are his job now. The examples are infinite and as wide as galaxies.
For me, humans are both smart and dumb creature. We can make complicated equations, shout out inspirational speech, fly to the moon, explore galaxies, be creative in many situation, thinking of many amazing thing, create something new with each progress, and many more. Yet, we still need help in a matter that, honestly, easier than what our minds can possibly archive. And without knowing, we actually already have the answers. Humans.
So, on this (rather) short writing, I hope we all learn to know your colleagues in-work (or basically, anyone) a little deeper, but not too personal (unless you want to, let say, marry him/her). And maybe this is kinda weird, but this thing are applicable in almost all situation in life, not only on work. Just be discreet and careful about this. You don’t need to interrogate your new friend on first meeting to know him/her better. Some will reveal in time, some you will need to dig with a clever and beautiful way.
