Beauty in Eyes of Beauty Admirer (Imelda Victoria)

When you said ‘beauty’, what kind of image or criteria coming to your head?

S curve body, big-round eyes, double eyelid, sharp nose, volumed lips, white-smooth skin, silky hair?

And then, have you ever think about ‘what is beauty’??

If you have thought of it, what is the definition of beauty in your version?

All of us might said that beauty is attractive, nice, and goodlooking. But actually, have you ever consider that all of it only came from outer world? For me, i’ve done it. Long before my last monday’s women psychology class discussion about ‘what is beauty’.

Since childhood, i’ve been admiring ‘beauty’. I’m a beauty admirer. Rather than a melodious sound of cicada, i would choose a beautiful-winged butterfly. Between Mickey mouse and Cinderella, i would choose Cinderella. I choose that because i’m judging them with their outer look. The first thing that come to my mind is someone’s face rather than their name or voice. My first impression of people or an objects come from it’s appearance. So, the first thing that need to be judged is of course their appearance, beauty or not?

Before then, in my term, beauty is something come in harmony. Each thing matched well with other things and in a right place. But, the more i admired it, the more i confused. From where the criteria of beauty come? How can you said that a miss universe is beauty? Why did you said that she isn’t?

In my teenage, i reached some conclusions. As my dream to be a professional in beautifying other people, i need to know first ‘what is beauty’? To get the answer, i’ve been looking on people who is said to be a beauty in social media. Then, i read their blog or their status. It’s not to know what they feel or have, but to know how they expressed it, their style. If they are an open person, i was even able to find out their lifestyle. With these, i reach one conclusion of beauty. Beauty is something achieved. To get a nice body and face, someone needs to give their body and face with the fullest treatment. Safe or not. Expensive or not. Healthy or not. They won’t consider it as long as they could reach the goal. Labeled as a beauty.

Other than lurking people who is said to be a ‘beauty’, i also found this interesting article in one of Indonesia’s magazine. I forgot the title, but this article talking about beauty trend in different era. According to the article, ‘beauty’ is trend. In each era, the criteria of beauty differs from each other. And then, i can still remember clearly that the article said “every women is beautiful, they are only live not in their era”.

Looking at how the terms of beauty changing every time, i could said that the criteria of beauty is something unstable and differs by culture and condition at that time. Beauty is abstract. Too many factor affects the term of beauty. So instead of learning about ‘what is beauty’, i’m rather learning about how to encouraging people to feel that they are beauty. Because, beauty isn’t something come from other people’s perspective. It is something come from the person itself.

I’m really agree and love to hear when my women psychology lecturer, Mrs. Henny Wirawan, said that we are a limited edition, we need to love this limited edition body of us. No matter how much we spent to get ‘S’ curve body, smooth skin, or silky hair, if we can’t say enough to ourselves. We aren’t beauty yet. Matching our body with the criteria in our era isn’t bad, but we need to get it with a healthy way. Know our limit, accept our limit, always love and treasure ourselves. Try to become beautiful in our era with a healthy way that is good and safe to our body. Don’t think hard other’s comment on us. There will be always people who said we are beautiful and we aren’t.

Nothing stay ugly and nothing stay beautiful forever. Human is a mortal. Always change every second.
